Yet again, London reaffirms its place on the fine dining map, no fewer than nine London restaurants gained their first Michelin star and most have been open less than 12 months. London restaurant Lima has become the first Peruvian restaurant in Europe to win a Michelin star. HKK a GLC favourite was allocated a star, followed by ‘Ametsa with Arzak Instruction’, ‘Outlaw’s at the Capital’, Brasserie Chavot, Soho’s Social Eating House, Angler and Bo London.
Six Michelin stars for Heston Blumenthal
Heston Blumenthal continues on his meteoric rise through the culinary world as his London restaurant, Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel is upgraded from a one to two-stars. He also keeps his three-stars for the Fat Duck and one-star for the Hinds head. Blumenthal said he was “overjoyed” at the news and praised his staff at Dinner, which specialises in historical dishes such as “meat fruit” and “tipsy cake”. He added: “It’s been an incredible two and a half years for Dinner and this is just simply the highlight. As a Brit, I am very proud that a restaurant inspired by and celebrating historic British cooking has been recognized today”
Not such a happy day for Gordon Ramsay
The release of the 2014 Michelin Guide wasn’t such a welcome arrival for Gordon Ramsay, with his flagship restaurant The London, based in New York lost its two stars due to ‘inconsistencies’. Michael Ellis of the Michelin guide stated that, although it was “difficult” to remove the two Michelin stars from The London, “We thought it was the right thing to do.”
Published on October 4th, The Michelin Guide Great Britain 2014 is priced £15.99, and the Michelin Guide London 2014 priced at £11.99.
