One of the World’s most famous sparkling waters, San Pellegrino, partnered with two Michelin Star Chefs – namely Theo Randall of The Intercontinental and Phil Howard of The Square – to showcase Italian cuisine in a pop up experience called Live in Italian, Live from London in a spectacular spot right on the bank of the Thames, with epic views of Tower Bridge.
It was probably one of the first fine dining pop-ups I’ve encountered with such a relaxed vibe and truly great food, cooked to perfection.
The Food
I was invited to sample the delicious food created by British Head Chef, Chris Denney who headlined the lunchtime service on both days. Chris hails from the coveted contemporary Italian restaurant, Four to Eight in Covent Garden so I was expecting great things and I wasn’t disappointed.
I was treated to a lip-smackingly good 3 course lunch consisting of Cornish Cock Crab with seaweed, fennel, avocado and blood orange which was so moreish I made sure I had eaten every single morsel. Followed by a succulent, fall off the bone BBQ lamb neck with caponata – a yummy Italian sauce that perfectly complemented the lamb.
And that wasn’t all.
I was served a crisp, deep fried courgette flower stuffed with tomino cheese with just the right amount of texture and subtlety to not overpower the delicate taste of the flower. This was served with a beetroot and grapemust ketchup with a lovely sweetness that was suited to the deep fried flavor of the courgette flower.
Needless to say, I wanted seconds.
The Details
The lunch service started at 12pm, finishing at 3pm and within that time Chris Denney and Jamie Coleman taught us how to make each of the dishes which was a great treat – I even got my seconds in the tasting area! I wasn’t sure if I really could do the dishes justice at home after the chefs shared their expert advice though – they made it look so easy.
With each meal, you were also offered a delish San Pellegrino bevvy to enjoy in the sunshine, all at a great price of £7.
What a steal.
The Verdict
With the amazing food, the sun shining, the spectacular views and the relaxed vibe, this was a pop up not to be missed.
I’m really hoping they come back and do it all over again soon. Come back, please!
