About the Gentlemen’s Luncheon Club

Photo (from left-to-right): Phil, Gary, Dickie (aka DBD) and Liam

The Gentlemen’s Luncheon Club (GLC) was set-up in 2009 by four London Foodies. The concept is simple. We all pay £30 into a joint bank account every month and choose a restaurant every quarter to meet up, drink, eat, drink a bit more, and more often than not, debate the rules of our club. The most controversial of these debates is how best to administer port fines for any perceived un-gentlemanly behaviour – a topic which can result in a rather expensive evening if our visit to Le Gavroche is anything to go by.

Even London foodies need rules

Restaurants are chosen via a unique combination of luck and judgement. Luck, in that we all write out our names and place them in an empty glass at the end of the meal, asking the nearest waiter to pick one out. Judgement, in that the lucky gentleman will then secretively select the next venue, announcing the restaurant only on the day of the next GLC. Then, the remaining names are put back into the glass and we repeat the process each time until all of us have had our choice.

Foodie themes

Whilst there are periodic GLC themes (chop houses and Michelin star restaurants), it’s important to understand we’re a food club first and foremost. The whole premise of the club is to experience new sights, new sounds and new tastes. So if you’ve got any good recommendations then please let us know (individually that is – we don’t want to spoil the secret).

The Gentlemen’s Luncheon Club founding fathers are:

Phil Coombe (Bon Viveur and Treasurer Extraordinaire)
Liam Plowman (our moral compass and catalyst for setting up the GLC)
Dickie Dolan (font of all cricketing knowledge and extreme foodie)
Gary Robinson (London foodie and blog editor)

Gentlemen’s Luncheon Club Contributors

We’re always thrilled when someone likes our food blog, so imagine how elated we are when we’re joined by other like-minded souls. That’s why we’re thrilled to be joined by Jenny-Mc-Farlane a fellow London foodie and journalist by trade. We hope you enjoy her reviews and please do contact us if you’re interested in becoming a contributor too.

As well as GLC evenings, being London Foodies at heart, we also visit and review other London restaurants. See our A-Z of London restaurants for the complete list or visit the home page for the latest restaurant reviews or see our Easter egg for a little secret. Happy dining!
